Description:
A promotional documentary titled The Runaways - Tokyo Performance (ザ・ランナウェイズ 東京公演) was produced by Nippon Phonogram and UDO Music Office. It features most of the band's second Tokyo concert, interspersed with additional footage filmed during their visit to Japan, including their arrival at the airport, the Nippon Phonogram press conference, rehearsals at Yamaha Studios, and scenes from the streets of Tokyo.
The documentary was created for promotional purposes and distributed to various music stores, which rented these films from record companies and screened them for fans in local theaters and halls.
The original footage was most likely shot on 16 mm film and later transferred to Betamax tape for distribution to music stores. One of these Betamax tapes eventually entered collectors' circles, and the version circulating today is a higher-generation copy of it.
Interestingly, two different edits of the documentary are known to exist. One version is slightly shorter, omits You Drive Me Wild entirely, and uses different footage from the band's stay in Japan in several places.
The documentary was most likely never broadcast on television in its entirety. However, Cherry Bomb was broadcast several times on various music programs and is the only surviving excerpt available in excellent quality.
