The Runaways Live

Tour history:

The Runaways' concerts were organized rather chaotically, and especially during the first year, the band played concerts mostly in various local clubs across California. It was after the release of their debut self-titled album that the management started to think more seriously about the touring and live performances. For that reason, the concerts are sorted not just by the tour and the date of performance, but also by the album to which they are related, to make this timeline more clear. In January, The Runaways started their first major tour across the USA, promoting the Waitin' For The Night album. The tour was organized in conjunction with The Ramones' management, as they were touring the US as well, and both bands played almost all the concerts together. The Runaways supported The Ramones for most of the time, but occasionally the bill was reversed and The Ramones supported The Runaways.

After a few weeks break from the national tour, The Runaways played a few concerts in California in early June, shortly before the start of their upcoming European tour. These concerts served to try out the new set list in front of an audience and for practice after a month's break before embarking on the upcoming tour.

As mentioned above, the set list has been completely changed. Concerts usually started with School Days and Gotta Get Out Tonight. Surprisingly, All Right You Guys returned to the set list - the last time it was played live was during the Japan tour in 1977. For the first time, Waitin' For The Night found its way to the set list as well. For the encore, Queens Of Noise and Wasted were played.

Summer Vacation was the name of the second European tour promoting the Waitin' For The Night album. Rarely, the European Invasion 1978 was used in some documents.

This time the band focused more on the Scandinavian countries as there was always a huge fan base and added more German concerts to the itinerary as well, and surprisingly only a few in the UK.

During this tour, the set list changed at least once. The first concerts usually started with I Wanna Be Where The Boys Are and Gotta Get Out Tonight. A lot more songs from their last studio album have been added to the set list, contrary to the previous tours. In the middle of the tour, the set list changed, and this time the performances started with School Days, California Paradise, and I Wanna Be Where The Boys Are. This was definitely a better selection of songs to warm up the audience from the very beginning of the show. During the encore, mainly the songs from the first two studio albums have been played, and the concerts typically ended with Wild Thing.

The only tour promoting the band's last studio album titled And Now... The Runaways. It was also the band's last tour before they broke up in early 1979. During this period, Vicki Blue was no longer in the band, and Laurie McAllister became a new bass player, although neither of them can be heard playing the bass on the album. It was actually Lita who recorded all the bass lines in the studio, and Laurie played the bass on tour.

The set list for this tour was completely redone, and several songs from the new album have been added in. The concerts usually started with Mama Weer All Crazee Now, California Paradise, and I Love Playin' With Fire. Although Wild Thing was not played anymore, Sandy had an opportunity to sing lead vocals in another tune - Right Now. Interestingly, only one song from their previous album has been played on this tour, and most of the “older” songs were from the first two albums. Also, Born To Be Bad returned to the set list for the encore on most of the shows (the band didn't play it since late 1975/early 1976) along with Queens Of Noise.

Plans for the European tour in 1979:

Shortly before the breakup of the band, another huge European tour was planned from February 21st to May 15th, 1979. Numerous concerts have already been booked, like the one at The Winter Gardens in Malvern, England, that was supposed to happen on March 28th, 1979. But the tour was completely cancelled in early 1979, and none of those concerts actually happened.
